Prusa i3

Basic settings that should get you up and running fast on the Prusa i3:

  • Print Temperature: 240

  • Bed Temperature: 85

  • Everything Else: Generic PETG Profile Default Settings

  • Windex! Windex (or any blue window cleaner) is a miracle with California Filament PETG and PEI coated steel sheets. You get great bed adhesion during the prints and the Windex makes prints come off the PEI steel sheet without damaging them. We spray it on and wipe it off before every print.

  • We use the above settings on the Prusa i3 to make our swatches.

Now for some nuance:

  • If you're having any sort of issue with these settings on the i3, we recommend double checking your first layer calibration. If somethings not working properly, this is often the culprit. 🚨Be careful not to damage your print bed🚨, but our rule-of-thumb is that the calibration should be lower than you think.

  • For large prints or prints with detailed first layers, you may need to increase the bed temp. When we do large prints that take up the full print surface of the i3 we use 110 bed temp.

  • We lower the print temperature to 225-230 for prints with more detail. This helps reduce stringing. We may also increase the retraction speed/distance.
